4th Grade - Pop Art Food Sculptures

These paper mache sculptures were a huge hit this year!  Students learned about Claes Oldenburg and his pop art food sculptures.  They each came up with their own food sculpture ideas and made it happen with just newspaper, masking tape, aluminum foil and paper mache.  Some students also brought in some "props" from home to go with their sculptures. 

The sculptures looked great on display and I'll be sad to take them down!

3rd Grade - Pop Art Ice Cream Paintings

Students had a lot of fun creating the most wonderful and delicious picture of ice cream that they could think of.  These began as a pencil drawing and were painted with watercolors, mostly using the "wet-on-wet" technique.  The last step was to outline using black sharpie. 

6th Grade - Pop Art Self-Portraits

Students began these colorful Andy Warhol-style paintings with a small drawing (6"x6") of themselves.  They used a mirror to get a close look at their own unique facial features.  Once completed, they used the graphite transfer technique to apply their portrait 4 times on the the larger, 12x12 piece of paper.  Next, they applied a different color "family" to each of their portraits; warm, cool, monochromatic and complementary colors.  It was a long process but worth the hard work!
